Up Up Down Down

Toss turn toss turn, look at the clock.  Nope not time to go yet.  The room slowly began to fade from deep black into blue.  The sun must be coming up.  All of a sudden we were both up, getting ready and loading the final things into our car.  Off we went!

Windows down, music playing we headed up the I-90. What seemed like endless flat land slowly began to show signs of a changing landscape.  We found ourselves now in between beautiful mountains, who's green shined bright next to it's grey counterpart.

From bright sunny skies we now found ourselves immersed in a dense fog, that only intensified the beauty of its surroundings.  We crossed the bridge that was to lead us to our great adventure.

My toes found themselves now being slipped into tight and stiff shoes.  My shoulders tried to cave under at first, due to unfamiliar weight.  I forgot momentarily about the weight that was pressing upon my shoulders because I was lost in the beauty that I had stepped into.

Tall trees, mushrooms, slugs, spiderwebs, a yellow that radiated through the vegetation signifying that the sky was no where close to getting ready to rest for the night.

When once there was no sound, I now was able to hear a sound I knew too well.  The sound of waves crashing upon the shore.

It was high tide and there was no way to be able to walk any further on the beach.  We looked up and there was a rope waiting for us.  Up the first beach cliff we went.  And here was the precise moment when David and I looked at each other with excitement in our eyes and we knew we were about to embark on something amazing.

Up Up we went.  Finding ourselves climbing up cliffs with ropes, and finding beautiful moss covered ladders, all the while surrounded by the most beautiful rain forest.  Down down switch backs, and old wooden ladders we traversed to find ourselves in the most beautiful cove.  The land of the starfish I called it.  Everywhere we looked we saw the most brilliantly colored starfish.

Hiking along the beach we were able to lunch and take a much needed nap.  One could forget to look up on this hike because what lays before you is so captivating, but don't forget to look up because soaring overhead you will find beautiful bald eagles.

After camping the night before in the forest near a cliff that looked over the beach, this night we found ourselves sleeping on the beach that we had admired from afar.  As the day was beginning to come to an end, the tide began to pull back. It revealed to us what beauty was being hidden underneath it's cold waters.

The horizon was showing us we were going to need some light. The sound of the drift wood crackling in the fire and the sound of the ocean made falling asleep that night far too easy.

Soon it was time to wake up again.  And we got to do all this again on our way back.  How grateful I was to have one last chance to experience this again with my best friend.

Happy Ten Years David Ettinger.

I set up the tent!

Until our next great adventure!

Part II: Orcas Island

This placed exceeded everything I imagined it to be.  Waiting for the ferry was so much fun, riding the ferry was even better! And just getting to explore this gem was a perfect way to end our little excursion. This world we live in truly is a work of art.
